    Authorities say that the rotting carcass of a 30-ton gray whale that washed up on a California beach will be cut up and sent to a landfill. California parks officials made the decision on Wednesday after deciding it would not be reasonable to tow the 40-foot whale out to sea or bury it at San Onofre State Beach in Orange County. Despite the stench, many curious beach goers have tried to get a look at the huge animal since it washed ashore over the weekend at Lower Trestles, which is a popular surfing spot.

  • Dead Whale Washes Ashore at Popular California Surf Spot

    A dead whale washed ashore at a popular surf spot in Southern California over the weekend drawing large crowds who attempted to get a look at the hulking sea creature up close. Whales are currently migrating up the California coast and sources say it is currently unknown how this particular whale died. The whale, which is reported to be a grey whale, washed ashore at Trestles Beach in the area of San Clemente on Sunday afternoon. State Park officials believe the whale was young and not yet fully grown. They also believe it had been dead for some time.
