  • New Fossil Research Sheds Light On How Post-Dinosaur Life Evolved

why exactly some animal groups survived and others bit the dust is still one of paleontology?s biggest mysteries New fossil research is now helping scientists peer back through time, offering glimmers of what might have been: How some animals made it through one of the worst extinction events the planet has ever seen ? and how mammals, in particular, came to dominate. • 'Girl on the Train' Trounces 'Birth of a Nation'

"The Girl On The Train" handily won the box office in it's opening weekend, earning $24.7 million dollars. The movie's success was propelled by the popularity of Paula Hawkins' best-seller. The book was fast-tracked to a big-screen adaptation. Far less successful was Nate Parker's Nat Turner biopic "The Birth of a Nation." Moviegoers largely greeted the movie with a shrug and a yawn after a 17-year-old rape allegation resurfaced against its star and director. 'Nation' took in a measly $7.1 million and didn't even finish in the top five for the weekend. The take is particularly disheartening, considering the film was sold to Fox Searchlight for $17.5 million dollars. Analysts are already declaring 'Birth of a Nation' a massive bomb.
