  • HIIT Exercises: Great For At Home Workouts

    Are you looking for a 20-minute workout that you can do at home? Business Insider suggests that you try (HIIT) a "High-intensity-interval-training" workout that allows you to burn lots of calories in a short amount of time. Business Insider explains, "HIIT circuits increase your heart rate and tighten and tone your muscles ... (using) "high-intensity exercise alternated with short rest periods." Great HIIT home exercises include combinations of: jumping jacks, squats, inclines, planks and hip lifts. Trainers suggest setting a timer, doing one exercise for 30 seconds. They suggest doing four 30-second exercises back to back before taking a break. You would then continue with the circuit for 10 minutes.

  • Fitting Fitness Into Your Schedule

    The hardest part of working out can be finding the time to fit it into your busy schedule. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that US adults get at least two hours and 30 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic exercise each week and perform muscle-strengthening activities ? like lifting weights or bodyweight exercises at least twice a week. Researchers have found that the best way to counteract the effects of the sedentary lifestyles many of us lead isn't necessarily with vigorous exercise. Getting up to move around every so often makes a difference. Throughout the day, get up and go for a walk, ideally for at least a couple minutes every half hour. Take the stairs instead of the elevator and try to get in a few good heart-pumping exercises throughout the week.

  • Short High-Intensity Workouts May Be More Beneficial Than Long, Moderate Workouts

    According to a report by Business Insider, a high-intensity workouts not only offer an alternative to longer, lower intensity workouts, but they could even have greater physical benefits. The article suggests that people work out at close to 100% intensity for short periods of time instead of doing longer workouts that require a more moderate, 50-70% level of exertion. High-intensity workouts could be short sprints, circuits of body-weight exercises, or even weight and kettelbell routines. Jason Barone, a clinical director at an organization called Professional Physical Therapy, previously told Business Insider. "High-intensity training is kind of perfect for the busy schedule ? you don't need a gym, you can do it at your home, you're looking at about a 20- to 30-minute workout."
