U.S. Issues Sanctions on 24 Russian Oligarchs

Description

On Friday, the United States imposed major sanctions against 24 Russians oligarchs in one of DC's most aggressive moves to punish Moscow for what it called a range of “malign activity." The sanctions reportedly freeze the U.S. assets of aluminum tycoon Oleg Deripaska, a close associate of Vladimir Putin, and lawmaker Suleiman Kerimov, whose family controls Polyus, the largest gold producer in Russia. The sanctions are largely said to be a reply to what U.S. intelligence agencies say was Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
