Billionaire Financier Epstein Arrested, Faces Sex Trafficking Charges


Financier Jeffrey Epstein was arrested late on Saturday on suspicion of sex trafficking of underage girls. Reuters reports Epstein will appear in federal court in Manhattan on Monday, facing charges similar to those he avoided in a 2007 plea deal. The U.S. Bureau of Prisons says the 66-year-old billionaire Floridian was being held in New York City’s Metropolitan Correctional Center. Epstein's attorney Jack Goldberger says his client plans to plead not guilty to any and all charges.

    In Los Angeles on Monday a German actress, using the pseudonym Emma Loman, filed a federal lawsuit alleging that Harvey Weinstein raped her during the Cannes Film Festival in 2006. CNN reports she is suing Weinstein for violation of human trafficking laws, assault, battery and false imprisonment. Loman's attorney, John G. Balestriere, tells CNN, "Our client brings her claims in an effort to achieve justice for herself, and she hopes that by doing so she can help open the door to justice for the women in her industry who have undergone similar experiences."
