Most recently, a team of dogs and handlers were dispatched to California in response to the Camp Fire in Northern California. The dogs are providing much needed love and comfort to thousands of evacuees at various shelters and churches. Dogs also visited first responders who are working around-the-clock battling the wildfire. Dogs have also been dispatched to other areas where disaster has struck, including the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, the Las Vegas shooting in 2017, the Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting in 2016, as well as the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013.

  • National Guardsman Died While Trying To Rescue Someone During Maryland Flash Floods

    On Tuesday, a body found after fast-moving water flooded Maryland's Ellicott City earlier this week was confirmed to be Eddison Hermond, a National Guardsman and Air Force Veteran who tried to save a shopkeeper in the flood. According to a report by BuzzFeedNews, Howard County Police confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that a body found earlier in the Patapsco River was that of the 39 year-old Hermond. The Baltimore Sun reports that Kate Bowman, who owns Clipper's Canine Cafe on Main St.

  • Washington Police Department Introduces First Deaf K-9

    A pit bull named Ghost has become the first deaf police dog in the state of Washington. He was scheduled to be euthanized was saved by the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society in Port Angeles. He is training as a narcotics detection dog for the Washington Department of Corrections. Ghost will specialize in searching for drugs in prisons and other state facilities.
